  • FFACup Winners

    COBU WIN FFA CUP
    03 June 2023

The 2023 SFP season concludes with a FFACup win for Cheese and Onion Biscuits United.

The honour pushes manager Jermy Junior above brother-in-law Manager Roberts in the SFP Hall Of Fame.

    The BOBU chief was delighted:

    "It's all good stats!!"

  • SFP CHAMPIONS

    FC CHUGGERNAUT WIN FIRST CROWN
    15 May 2023

After 16 consecutive weeks at the top manager McNamara can finally get the party started, as FC Chuggernaut are crowned SFP Champions.

With a squad recruited mostly at the auction, the title was won with a real focus on goals. However, not only did FC Chuggernaut score the most goals in the league, they also kept the most clean sheets.

It's McNamara's 11th campaign and after breaking his silverware duck last season, in the form of the SFP Cup, he's now added the biggest trophy of them all.

Manager McNamara promised to celebrate long into the summer:

"It’s a great feeling, against the odds, not fancied, but week after week performed. I think we’ve felt it was ours for a good few weeks now but with Magicmen and Rob-O-Klopp not giving an inch it was nervous all the way."

"Time to celebrate. This party is going to go on all the way to Cork!"

  • SFP CUP WINNERS

    SPARTAK WIN SFP CUP
    28 May 2023

After 180 minutes or action, AC Spartak finally put the Flying Pigs to the sword the the final replay.

Spartak's semi final hero Awoniyi popped again to put Spartak ahead, and his effort was followed up by goals from Fernandes and Fornals.

Lucchesi's win means Pritchard Seniors wait for silverware now clocks in at 29 years. But for Lucchesi it's his 8th honour and his second SFP Cup, adding to his 2013 win

    Manager Lucchesi was absolutely thrilled:

"We got goals when we needed them, had our share of luck and maintained a laser focus on a trophy last won in 2013. Very well played to Mr. Pritchard - we both had to beat the highest scorers in the group stages to make it to a final. Injuries have hit both our teams this year and on the day we could play more starters. I’m sure the Pigs will break their duck."

"It hasn’t been a season to shout about in the league so this is amazing. I take nothing for granted and will enjoy the win - it gets harder and harder to win in the SFP every season."

CRACKERS ROMP HOME WITH 5ASIDE CUP
    15 May 2023

A Trent-Alexander thunderbolt secured a first 5Aside Cup for manager Crockford, as his side brushed away Perdoc Byzeusthians in this years final.

It's manager Crockfords third final win in his third final appearance, retaining his 100% record for those key matches. The Crackers chief was over-joyed:

We're only just getting over the partying after the big victory. Just feeling pleased to have added a second trophy in three years, something most struggling clubs like ours can only dream of. Makes it all worthwhile!

It was the complete opposite for Baynes Senior, who has unfortunately now faced 3 final defeats in 3 final appearances.

  • COBU Club Badge

    COBU LAUNCH NEW CLUB BADGE
    25 October 2022

SFP stalwarts Cheese & Onion Biscuits have launched a new club badge.

    COBU chief Jermy Junior said a badge was not only something the club had been considering for a while, but that a bet with a fellow manager had prompted it's release for this campaign;

"After a debate about a bet on who will finish lower this season with fellow manager Martin Edwards, a forfeit of having the opposite managers club badge tattooed was suggested. At this point, I realised that 20 odd years in, (I think I made a badge up when I was about 12 during French with Mrs Leonard, but since then), I've not given it another thought."

"So the time has come, and we're pleased to unveil our new club badge, which has spiralled thought of creating a new kit which we'll (and others should follow suit) wear at the next auction. Imagine the scenes in Cork..."

  • SUPER CUP CHAMPS

    FC CHUGGERNAUT WITH MORE SILVERWARE
    01 September 2022

After securing his first SFP trophy at the end of last season, manager McNamara has started the new campaign with his second.

FC Chuggernaut have won the 2022 SFP Super Cup after 4 wins from 5 matches and 16 goals scored - 9 of which came from the £22m man Haaland.

    After seasons of evolution, manager McNamara's philosophy of attack, attack, attack has finally paid dividens and brought home the silverware. Manager McNamara is obviously in bouyant mood;

"We’re on cloud nine. It feels like we’ve got a taste for winning and we want more. I think it’s too easy for the likes of Walters to say it’s our league to lose. We’re confident we can have a good season. We’re more than just an attacking team and hopefully the season will show that."

And with one trophy in the bag, up to 4th in the league and with this seasons attack, they should hope to be challenging for more. FC Chuggernaut will be favourites to retain this seasons SFP Cup, and with Toney and Zaha backing up Haaland in attack this season, maybe a title challenge too.

"We back ourselves heavily in the cup. It’s going to take a good team to beat us. The league is obtainable and we have to believe, but only time will tell."

  • WHEN PIGS FLY

PRITCH SENIOR FIRST OUT OF THE BLOCKS
    26 August 2022

SFP Season 28 is well underway, and a surprise manager has set the pace from the off.

Pritch Senior's Flying Pigs have been top-of-the-table since the big kick off, and don't look like slowing down just yet. With points coming from defence and attack, Pritchard's men have consistently scored around the 50 point mark. Good early season form has come from Sanchez in goal, Perisic, Schar and Reece James in defence, and with Rodrigo and Salah free-flowing up top.

As the only manager in the current SFP without a trophy to his name, could this finally be the year? Obviously the Pigs boss is taking it a week at a time:

"Any trophy and no forfeit in McDonalds would be a great season for me!"

  • AUCTION 2022

    PLANES, TRAINS AND
    E-SCOOTERS
    18 July 2022

Auction 28 took the form of an idea manager Earl had proposed after the boating day auction of 2019, but instead of boats it would be trains.

First, eleven managers met for breakfast at 0830hrs at the Ber Street Kitchen in Norwich. Manager Earl, who had flown over from Cork the previous night, made sure Jermy Senior was there on time.

After breakfast, eleven became twelve as manager Peggs joined the rest at Norwich train station, and all boarded the 1045 to Sheringham. A little under an hour later they all departed the train at West Runton and headed to The Village Inn.

Once beer garden tables had been arranged, drinks ordered and we'd made contact with Edinburgh and Italy, the full compliment of 14 managers began to build their squads for the coming season. And, for he first time the auction was documented in realtime on Google Sheets so all involved could see exactly what was happening, and an automatic alert could be raised with any overspending!

Goal Keepers kicked things off and Ederson was again re-signed by Cheese and Onion Biscuits United for the 4th season in a row. The first five keepers all sold for over £6m, as the average paid out for a man between the sticks was up from last years £4.1 to £4.9m. The top three spenders were:

    8.5 – Ederson, Nick
    7.8 – Alisson, Scott
7.0 – Mendy, Martin and Lloris, Matt

Defenders were up next, and overall spending on a back line was down on the previous year, with the average spend on defence falling from £12.7m last year to £11.5m. Top defender was Alexender-Arnold at £9.5m who this year signed for the Crackers:

    9.5 – Alexander-Arnold, Pete
    8.0 – J. Cancelo, Rob
7.7 - Van Dijk, Pete and Robertson, Nick

After a spot of lunch, the auctioneers seat was vacated by the Chairman as manager Edwards took the helm for the midfielders. For the second consecutive year it was the midfield area that saw the biggest drop in spending year on year, with managers spending £4.9m less than last season. The average spend this season was 12.2 compared to last years 17.1. The big 3 signings were:

    11.1 - De Bruyne, Scott
    8.7 – Fernandes, Mike
    8.4 - Mount, Pritch

Finally, it was time for the ususal showpiece forwards finale. With many midfielders becoming forwards this season the average total spent on forwards was up 10.5% per manager on last year. Nine forwards went for double figures this year as it seemed everyone had held money back for a marquee striker. New Man City signing Haaland was the most expensive sale of the day with manager McNamama splashing 22.0 on the Norweigen. In fact, FC Chuggernaut spent 68% of their budget on forwards as he shelled out £34m on Haaland, Zaha and Toney. Top buys were:

    22.0 – Haaland, Ed
    18.8 – Salah, Pritch
    16.9 – Kane, Nick

And with that, one of the finest auctions of all time was concluded. Managers Dale and Lucchesi logged out, and the rest jumped back on the train, hopping off first at North Walsham for a drink, before heading back to Norwich. Those who remained headed into the City for a Chinese, before they headed off into the night full of hope for the coming season...
