In 1996 the league grew yet again with the addition of another 3 managers. Scott Pritchard, Aaron Fenn and Craig Hunting joined the previous season's twelve managers for auction four, hosted in the the Jermy Garden in St James.

At the auction, Spartak Cheese manager Michael Lucchesi would set a new SFP record by splashing £8.0m on Gianluca Vialli.

The second defence of Baynes's SFP title didn't start well, with Butt Kickers finding themselves 2nd from bottom on the opening day. Bushall FSC again started well and lead the table until January, although Nick Jermy's COBUTOF top top spot for a single week at Christmas. After a month long fight for top spot, on 25 January Butt Kickers resumed their place at the top of the league and would remain so all the way through to May to claim their third SFP title in a row.

History was made during March 1997 when Butt Kickers set a new record with the purchase of Robbie Fowler for £33.5m, who would go on to score just 10 points.

In the Inter League Cup, Aaron Fenns's Hot Hot Hot represented the SFP in the final against St James Fantasy League opposition. Unbelieveably Fenn took his first honour in his debut season, against much favoured Tom Rycroft's Apache Indians with a 5:1 win.

In the European Super League, which had grown to feature 9 teams from the SFP and St Jame FL, Magicmen would go on to claim the title against Butt Kickers.

For the domestic competitions the SFP Cup would finish in a two legged 21:-5 win for Crockford's Crackers against Jimmy Hills Chin. In the FFA Cup, Scott Pritchard picked up his first honour in his debut season.
